I’m a huge fan of the olympics because I admire the hard-work and sacrifice it takes to become an Olympian. To be one of the very best in your field is a phenomenal feat that very few ever accomplish. In watching these olympics often the difference between a gold medal and no medal has been milliseconds. About the time of a blink of the eye. So what separates athletes on a world class level? Competition on this level is not about skill anymore everybody is fast everybody can go hard the difference is attitude.
What separates the elite from everyone else is attitude. Attitude is everything, if when you workout you are trying to find ways to shortcut the drills, or your thinking about when will the workout be over. You should be happy that you have half the workout left to give it all you got. If what separates gold medalist is milliseconds how much does that apply to you. The thing that separates superstars from the rest of the NBA is not talent, the NBA has lots of talent. There are plenty of players who can run fast, jump high, and shoot straight, what separates them is there attitude. Were not talking about huge attitude gaps were talking about small tweeks, little adjustments that make all the difference.
Attitude Is The Difference
So how do you start your workouts? Are you complaining about the hard-work that comes with the workout? Are you thinking about your legs already being tired from yesterdays workout? Well if you go into your workout with those thoughts of course your workout is not going to be productive. Of course you’ll find a way to do the least possible just to get done. Or are you excited for the opportunity to get better today. To see if you can go harder than the day before or make more shots. Your going to have a much more productive workout and get much more from the workout. Its all about attitude thats what separates winners from losers, not so much skill its attitude.
Every coach loves a player that comes to practice excited to be there and ready to work-hard, someone that motivates and challenges his teammates to be better. Your talent will only take you so far if you don’t have a positive attitude there will come a point when coaches will not keep you because your attitude will drag everyone else down and hurt the team. So please whenever you hit the gym be mindful of your attitude it could be the difference between a gold medal or nothing. Between making the team or not, getting a scholarship or trying to walk on. Lucky for you there are more people that would rather hit the snooze button, look for shortcuts, or skip a workout here and there. And when you meet up with them in competition even if there more talented you will win even if its only by a millisecond.
